Graduate Program in Anthropology

The Graduate Program in Anthropology consists of two major disciplines, cultural anthropology and archaeology, and offers education which aims at reaching a comprehensive understanding of cultures / civilizations, historical creations of humankind. We urge students to discover tangible phenomenon and issues from a local perspective, disentangle why and how they occurred, and present a feasible outlook for the future. Through these research practices, we aim at cultivating professionals capable of dealing with issues pertaining to culture / civilization.

Features of the Program

Cultural anthropology and archaeology are the two major disciplines of the Program. Students will select either one as their main discipline, and may select the other as their sub discipline, based on the idea that both disciplines are inextricably related in understanding culture / civilization. Joint study meetings are convened 2 or 3 times a year, where students could share their research outcomes, and receive comments from the whole faculty, which will support them to complete their thesis.
