Graduate Program in Law

With a raft of significant legal reforms occurring recent times, Japan can be said to be at turning point in terms of its laws. Equally, in the field of legal research, we are increasingly required to look beyond an approach centered on statutory interpretation, and move towards one that focusses on our changing reality, one that takes into account factors related to international society, comparative law, as well as civil and corporate society.

In our Graduate Program in Law, at this turning point for law, we focus on the selection of legal value, clarifying its significance and limitations. We engage in education and research using an approach in which we analyze the impact that an interpretation has in relation to selection of legal value, aiming to develop people capable of shining both within Japan or on the world stage as legal researchers or expert professionals.
