Nanzan University Institute for Social Ethics

Founded in 1980, the Institute for Social Ethics seeks to analyze social problems from a standpoint consistent with Christian principles, and to bring about a greater awareness of human ethical values in the social sciences and in the approach to social problems in general. The Institute, taking a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to understanding social issues, also seeks to raise the question of fundamental values and clarify these as issues in ethical choices. By drawing its ethical perspective both from Christian teaching and tradition and from Japanese tradition and experience, the Institute takes an approach to ethics that is both Christian and dialogical. It seeks at the same time to take full account of the realities of contemporary society.
