Using Technology for Learning

I have been working in Japanese English Education for over 25 years and have worked at all levels from elementary school to university. In that time, I have discovered that many students are not taught how to study effectively. One my goals is to increase students' awareness of how to learn better by understanding how to study more efficiently. Currently I have been interested in studying how the current generation of students who have grown up surrounded by digital technology use this technology for learning. What I have discovered is that digital technology has many tools and benefits, but students are unaware of these benefits. Technology is mostly a distraction. I have focused on introducing students to ways they can use technology to help and support their studies. The biggest problem facing Japanese students is that they remain in the Japanese internet and are unaware of the vast resources available to them if they start using the internet in English. English is not that difficult to understand in real life and the internet is not as scary as you are led to believe. The best advice for helping you prepare for university is to do some research and find a department that you are really interested in. Also, to improve your English, get more exposure to authentic English content, internet stories, movies, TV, books and magazines, anything that is created for English speakers. Close your textbook and try reading English materials you are interested in, it is not hard.
