Taking a Deep Breath
With tests, deadlines, and big decisions like university choices, the life of a student can be very stressful! However, when we're feeling overwhelmed, there are some tricks that can help us remain calm. One very simple trick to calm our nerves is called Box Breathing. It can be done anywhere and anytime.
1. Imagine a box with four equal sides.
2. Count to four in your mind as you breathe in slowly through your nose, filling your belly with air. Think of this as drawing the left side of the box.
3. Hold your breath for another four counts. Imagine this as the top side of the box.
4. Let the breath out through your mouth for another four counts. This is like drawing the right side of the box.
5. Hold your breath again for four counts. The final side of the box is complete!
6. Repeat this as much as you need to.
Why does this work? When we're stressed, our breathing gets shallow and fast. Box breathing forces us to slow down, take deeper breaths, and get more oxygen to our brains. This helps us think clearer and feel calmer, which is perfect for tackling those big challenges! Good luck!
