Why everybody should study Humanities and speak at least a foreign language.

We live in a world in which the concept of physical distance has radically changed in the last 30 years. Thanks to the development of communications and transport, we can access any place in the world in a few hours and, more important, any information or any person in the world in just seconds.
This fully new situation and the computer systems behind it demands a lot of people specialized in computer design, system development and a wide range of studies regarding computer engineering are therefore flourishing.
The advantages of this flow of information are, no doubt, enormous, but there are also important drawbacks and important problems which cannot be lightly overseen. In a global world people are overwhelmed with new information which is consumed and rapidly discarded, the information is also becoming homogenous for everybody, let's say for example, that the pictures in Instagram, the videos in You tube, the news in Yahoo News, and the hashtags in Twitter are the same for everybody at the same time, and the same is true for the news, the fashion, the books, and every information of any type you can reach in the internet.
This means that there is a danger also that the way of thinking would be becoming every year more and more homogeneous, and this is a very dangerous situation.
When you think about the north pole ice melting debt to the climate change, you can picture the danger of an earth in which half of the continents being underwater and disappearing in a few years. Now, think about the same thing, but in terms of opinions, original ideas, deep real knowledge of the world and critical thinking.
It is perfectly possible that in a few years, the capacity of people to think by themselves, to analyze problems and to create original solutions would be also so rare, that creative solutions could also be underwater. In a few years, people who have studied Humanities and developed their critical thinking skills will be so scarce and valuable that companies will be desperately searching for them. Instead of very specialized people in one field of expertise, the companies will need people who can see the whole picture, who can analyze and take decisions based not only of data, but on a deep knowledge of the world.
Studying Humanities and Languages is the way to develop these skills. If you learn about history, psychology, society, foreign culture, politics, anthropology and philosophy to say some examples, and you develop the capacity to apply and to use all this knowledge for problem solving, you will have a large advantage as a professional and as a human being in the next future.
Learn at least a language, live or at least travel to foreign countries and get to know their culture, and their people. Gather experiences, read about history, cultures etc. in short, become an active learner, thinker and a cultivated person. Learn to think first, get specialized later.
