2018 ACUCA (The Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia)
Student Camp – Students' Report

November 13, 2018

The ACUCA Student Camp is an international gathering hosted by the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA), to which Nanzan University belongs. This year, the Camp was held from October 10th to 14th at the campus of Christian University of Thailand, located in Nakhon Pathom, about two hours southwest of Bangkok. Since 1994, the camp has been held biennially with the aim of providing an opportunity for students from Asia to discuss aspects of their culture and societies. Students from a total of eight countries and regions (Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, India and Hong Kong) who are members of the ACUCA gathered to take part in this year’s Camp. Two representatives from Nanzan University participated in the camp and considered the theme, “The Internet’s Impact on Identity and Character Development of Students in Asian Christian Higher Education: Issues and Solutions.” Through a keynote lecture and the various presentations, students discussed the impact of the Internet on the character and identity development of students and enjoyed sharing their ideas, values and faith through exchange with students from different culture backgrounds. The “Cultural Presentation”, in which participants introduced their traditions or culture, helped students to broaden their horizons regarding the diversity of cultures in Asia as well as giving them an opportunity to develop friendships.
