November 7, 2013

A collaborative team featuring members of the Ooishi Lab, Takami Lab (Chen Laboratory), Sawada Lab, and Noro Lab in the Nanzan University Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering participated in the ESS Robot Challenge held on September 3, 2013. The team took third place in the Smart Mobile Robot/Basic Division as part of the Embedded System Symposium 2013 information exchange conference.

The ESS Robot Challenge was a special embedded systems event designed by the IPSJ Special Interest Group on Embedded Systems (SIGEMB). Embedded systems are the foundation for a broad spectrum of mechanical, electric/electronic, and software fields, so it is not always easy for these diverse specialties to communicate with one another. The purpose of the ESS robot challenge is to get scientists involved in R&D education in these areas to focus on a single theme, breaking new ground in innovative fields while providing valuable learning experiences to young engineers and researchers developing next-generation technologies.

The teams competed with an automatic cleaning robot and an autonomous traveling robot, coming away with a well-deserved third place. Congratulations to all of the participants on this outstanding achievement!!
