Pair of 2nd-year students of German from the Faculty of Foreign Studies won
the 32nd Goethe Poetry Reading Contest hosted by the Juchheim Group

Kana Ueno and Shiori Nakayama, 2nd-year students of German in the Faculty of Foreign Studies won as a pair at the 32nd Goethe Poetry Reading Contest held in Tokyo on August 24, 2013.

Passing primary qualification from a field of nearly 300 applicants (using a 3 minute or less recording of a Goethe poem read by the person to a cassette, CD or MD ), 25 competitors came to the Tsuda Hall in Sendagaya to show their level of understanding and reading expression of the poetry in Japanese and German.

Of five applicants from Nanzan, three were selected for the finals.

In the finals, the pair of Ueno and Nakayama read “Der Erlkönig” in German before an audience of 500 to win the competition.
