[ Topic ] Great East Japan Earthquake and Disaster Volunteerism: Problems of the Initial Shock and the Disaster Zone Relay
[ Description ] Tomohide Atsumi is going to give us a report based on his field research in Noda village in Iwate Prefecture regarding disaster volunteering arising in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
First, we will look back over the trends in disaster volunteering since the Kobe-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, often called the start of an era of disaster volunteerism.
Next, we will turn to the issues at the time of the initial shock of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the stages of activities in the disaster zone.
Finally, an introduction will be given to the “Disaster Zone Relay” as we look to the future of disaster volunteerism.
