July 5, 2012

[ Date/time ] Friday July 20, 2012, from 4:00 p.m.
[ Venue ] Room R32, 3F, Building R, Nagoya Campus, Nanzan University
[ Topic ] The relationship between trade and environment: Discoveries arising from demonstrative analysis
[ Speaker ] Tetsuya Tsurumi
(Instructor in the Nanzan University Faculty of Policy Studies)
[ Summary ]

Trade activities affect the amount of environmental contamination and woodland resources on a global scale. Tetsuya Tsurumi has been working on demonstrative analysis of the effects of liberalized trade on the economy and environment. We have invited him to speak based on the past results of his research on the theme of the relationship between trade and environment at this colloquium. Specifically, the effects of liberalized trade on four environmental indicators related to water contamination, acid rain, global warming and deforestation (biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon dioxide (CO2), and amount of woodland resources respectively) are discussed while examining differences between advanced and developing countries. We will also hear about the results of his demonstrative analysis about the effects of environmental regulation on international competitiveness and of climate change on international trade.

*This colloquium is part of the Governance and Environmental Issues research project.
