This year, the Embassy of Germany in Japan has organized many commemorative events to mark 150 years since Japan and Germany first signed a treaty of amity and commerce. As part of the schedule of such events, our University, established as it was by a German monastic order, received a suggestion from the German Embassy to hold a Japan-Germany Joint Drama Project. This led to "Nanzan University German language drama" students combining with the German drama troupe "Teatro Affetto" to give a series of performances in several different venues around Japan during the period 4 to 17 September, 2011. In that respect, in my position as head of the steering committee, I would like to offer a report on the project and a word of gratitude to those involved.
