Students of the Department of British and American Studies in the Faculty of Foreign Studies give progress reports on the subject of their graduation theses

2010.12.07

On 10 November 2010, at the Nanzan University Nagoya Campus, students of the Department of British and American Studies in the Faculty of Foreign Studies presented progress reports on their graduation theses.

In keeping with the Nanzan University Department of British and American Studies “Program for the Improvement of Multi-skills in Education to Enable Students to Participate in the Modern Globalized World,” which is supported under the 2009 University Education - Student Assistance Promotion Project “Theme A” University Education Promotion Program, run by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, from last year the fourth year students of the Department have been giving presentations in English about the research that they are carrying out for their graduation theses.

In accordance with the various seminar groups’ specialist areas, there was a diverse range in the content of the students’ presentations, such as American studies, literature, linguistics and English education.

While it is a requirement for the students in the Department of British and American Studies to write their graduation theses in English, having to give presentations in English as well as take questions or give opinions like this among students from other seminar groups with different specialist areas, was of course, not only an opportunity to “communicate and discuss topics in English,” but also to consider their own research from a different perspective, and was therefore an extremely worthwhile initiative.
