Graduate Program in International Area Studies

The aim of the Graduate Program in International Area Studies is to equip students with an advanced command of languages in order to contribute to the actualization of multicultural coexistence between various regions around the world, as well as to create and develop mutual understanding and exchange with Japan. To accomplish this, students have opportunities to engage in study of three regions of the world: the United States, Spain and Latin America, and Japan and Asia. Internships with international exchange organizations, NGOs, and NPOs are also incorporated as students pursue an interdisciplinary and pluralistic means of attaining a cross-cultural understanding and perception of what actualization of coexisting society should be based on a deep scholarly acquisition of international regions.

Characteristics

We aim to cultivate professionals who are equipped with global understanding, can adapt to the continuously changing times, and can solve cross-cultural adjustment problems that plague regions. Our perspective includes career opportunities for teachers with concerns for middle and high school level education, international exchange organizations, NGO- and NPO-related project managers, and overseas business operation managers of private companies. Further study opportunities in advanced research and education include organic and collaborative research with Nanzan University’s American, Latin American, and Asian Studies Centers, that play central roles in the study of international regional affairs in the Chubu region.
