Not long after the 2012 Fall Semester started, Pao-san and Tibby-san dropped in to the CJS Office. It was a very hot day despite it already being October, and being from hot countries they were surprised at the heat in Nagoya. In the office in the new Building R, they enjoyed meeting Okada-sensei and Tsuda-sensei again and talking about the time they shared together. We hope that they will drop in again in future.

Suvannakkot Patcharaphan

After finishing at the CJS, she returned to graduate from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Following her graduation, she worked for one year in the Bangkok branch of a Japanese pharmaceuticals company, where she was in charge of interpreting at meetings and translating various materials, so was able to enjoy using her Japanese language ability on an everyday basis.

Wanting to study Japanese further, and unable to forget the marvelous experience she had as a student in the CJS, she decided to quit her job and return to Japan to study once more. At present she is studying at postgraduate level at Tsukuba University, focusing on Japanese education.

She found IJ600/IJ700 really hard going, but is very grateful to Okada-sensei for being able to improve her Japanese to the high level that it is now at. She says that the content of the afternoon classes she took, Sato-sensei's Business Japanese and Yasui-sensei's classes on Japanese used in hotels, were practical and have proven to be very useful. She also took shodo classes, and through these was able to develop an even stronger bond with Japanese culture.

By speaking in Japanese to her friends in the same room in the Koryu Kaikan, and studying together with them she was able to further develop her language skills. She became great friends with her room-mates, Diana from the United States and Julia from Germany, and still communicates with them by e-mail and Facebook. These connections within the same year group are also something that their experience at the CJS has created for them.

After returning to Thailand she also helped out as an interpreter at the Nanzan University booth at a Study Abroad Fair, and says that she was very happy to have been able to do some work for Nanzan University. At the fair she was able to meet students from own university who had been to the CJS either before or after her, and came to appreciate the importance not just of the bonds with her peer group, but with other year groups.

She says that she enjoys meeting people, and that in future she wants to work as an interpreter helping to create links between people.
