Chun Yip Choi

Mr. Chun Yip Choi dropped into the CJS Office when on holiday to Japan with his fiancée.

He studied for one year with us from the Fall Semester of 2008 and after returning to Hong Kong, he began a career working for the good of society as a policeman. He said that he has helped out Japanese tourists on the streets of Hong Kong on many an occasion and no doubt the people being assisted were very surprised at his impressive command of the Japanese language. It goes without saying that this kind of thing is a reflection of Choi-san’s ongoing desire to do something for Japan or Japanese people.

At the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, he said that he felt a strong desire to do something, anything, to help Japan. He was immediately very concerned about the well-being of people in Nagoya and at Nanzan University. Straight after the disaster struck, he offered his services to the Japanese Consulate in Hong Kong to assist with the arrangements for Japanese tourists or people residing in Hong Kong who needed to return to Japan as quickly as possible. We can imagine that many Japanese people would have been greatly reassured by the kind and attentive assistance that he would have offered.

When was at Nanzan, he spent almost all of his time studying really hard in his room in the Koryu Kaikan. He said that he lost confidence in the IJ600 class and considered dropping down to the IJ500 level, but thanks to the instruction and encouragement from Okada-sensei and Komada-sensei he got through that difficult period and got on track to get where he is now. It goes without saying that Choi-san’s prodigious efforts with his study played a huge part in this success.
