Daniel McKelvey

On 13 April, Daniel McKelvey visited the Center. Originally from Colombia, when he was studying overseas at Case Western Reserve University, in 1996-1997, he came to study in Japan through John Carroll University and spent one year at the CJS. After finishing his studies at the CJS he returned to Japan on the JET Program, working in the Gifu Municipal Office as coordinator of international exchange for three years, before then taking up a position in charge of overseas public relations at a stock exchange in Tokyo. He then returned to the United States, gaining an MBA at Chicago University while working for the Microsoft Corporation, where is still employed.

He says that memories of when he entered the CJS came flooding back when he made his way up the long slope and through the Nanzan University main gate. He told us that these days he doesn't use Japanese at all, so he was surprised at how it came out naturally when arrived in Japan. He said he thinks that this is because he knows that he still has his base of knowledge gained at Nanzan University. He also said that he will never forget the teachers and office staff who looked after him during his time at Nanzan. We look forward to Daniel continuing to go from strength to strength in his career.
