Anca Focesneanu

On 25 July, Anca Focesneanu (CJS 1994) from Romania visited Nanzan University. Anca is now an associate professor in the Department of Japanese and Japanese Literature at the University of Bucharest. In summer she came to Japan to carry out a lexical survey focusing on young people’s language. Her first port of call was to her alma mater, Nanzan University, where she paid a visit to the teachers who taught her back in her days as a student. After studying for a short period at the CJS as a government-funded international student, Anca enrolled as a research student from October 1999, and from April 2000 she entered the Graduate Program in Linguistic Science in the Graduate School of Humanities, where she went on to acquire a doctoral degree.
The day after she came to Nanzan was the day for various graduate school explanations, so she helped out on the university side of things as someone who was a senior through the system for the current students. After this she rushed away to see her tea ceremony teacher from her days when she lived in Nagoya. It is easy to imagine Anca as a committed researcher of Japanese studies back in Romania.
