David S. Sindell

Mr. David S. Sindell visited Nanzan University on 4 June. He studied at Nanzan as a student from New York University in the Fall Semester of 1988. In those days there was a famous professor at New York University by the name of Noro, who recommended that David come to Nanzan to study at CJS. At that time, Prof. Akira Komai, the second President of The Society for Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language was a lecturer at the CJS, so no doubt these two teachers had a hand in David’s coming to Nanzan.

These days, David has his own law firm with offices in New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo, but the reason for his visit to Nanzan this time was in a volunteer capacity as the head of the Study Year Program that arranges short-term overseas study.

Since its establishment over 30 years ago the CJS has offered homestay experiences to students from overseas, so David’s time at Nanzan also saw him learn about homestays. It’s really pleasing to know that the CJS has been useful in this area.
