ASEACCU Annual Conference will be hosted by the Notre Dame University of Australia at the Broome Campus (information about the location can be found at the Notre Dame website: https://www.nd.edu.au/nav-about-notre-dame/campus-maps )

The proposed theme is "Valuing Indigenous Cultures and Traditions in the 'Care for our Common Home'". The date is (as usual) the last full weekend of August, August 25 to 27. There is a possibility that the conference will begin one day earlier to give participants more time to explore the surroundings. There will also be a Student Forum, probably including some kind of service learning.

The ASEACCU secretariat is still hosted by Nanzan University but we are in the process of moving the secretariat to University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. A notification will be send out when the transition has been completed. Until then, I'll be happy to provide any additional information.

A New Publication by the Congregation of Catholic Education

Below is a message from Prof. Msgr. Guy-Real Thivierge,IFCU Secretary General and Consultor to the Congregation of Catholic Education, calling attention to a recent publication by the Congregation of Catholic Education. To download the full text of the publication, "Educating for Today and Tomorrow. A passion that renews Itself", use the URL indicated at the end of the message.

The year 2015 marks a dual anniversary: the fiftieth of the Conciliar Declaration Gravissimum Educationis, concerning all areas of Christian education and the twenty-fifth of the Apostolic Constitution Ex Corde Ecclesiae, addressed to Catholic Universities. The actors of culture and education are especially invited to commemorate these historical events which are both the product of a remarkable collective development process and express the ardent desire of the Church to create a dialogue between intellectuals, educators, and contemporary societies.
What new challenges will be able to revive with courage and audacity our commitments in the fields of culture, education and faith? How can we not think about a new evangelisation?
The present Instrumentum Laboris: ≪ Educating for Today and Tomorrow. A passion that renews Itself ≫ that we have the honour of submitting for your study, is aimed at boosting the commitment of the Church in the field of education. It brings together the essential points of the two documents, the basic characteristics of the world of culture in its relationship with Catholic education as well as the challenges encountered by educational institutions.
Intellectuals and academics are invited to prolong these reflections and to give, according to their fields of competence, the time needed to report on developments in the world since the Vatican II Council. They are also called upon to mark the new horizons of culture and Catholic education and to propose areas for the meeting of the Gospel and the Church with the world of culture and education.
The Members of the International Federation of Catholic Universities, in harmony with the ever-prophetic mission of their institution, will be able to enlighten, with pleasure, Christian educators on the cultural, scientific, political and religious challenges concerning the thought of the Church since Vatican II, particularly in terms of relations between culture, education and current societies. Their commitment will enrich the working paper which was submitted by the Congregation for Catholic Education and at the same time, will contribute to better envisaging together, all emergency education for today and tomorrow. This will also be an opportunity to assess the strengthening of new participatory practices promoted by this same Roman institution. The invitation to complete the questionnaire (totally or partially) in response to this Instrumentum Laboris is evidence of this as it wishes to be an open link of expression and sharing.

Prof. Msgr. Guy-Real Thivierge,
IFCU Secretary General,
Consultor to the Congregation of Catholic Education
